Ph.D. Course on Dynamic Analysis and Applications in Resource and Environmental Economics

Contents:
This course will introduce students to methods of dynamic analysis and illustrate the application of techniques to natural resource and environmental issues. The course will review basic techniques of Calculus of Variation and Optimal Control Theory and illustrate the usefulness of these methods in understanding capital theory and problems that involve intertemporal tradeoffs. Examples will be drawn from investment theory, renewable and non renewable resource economics, and environmental economics. Exercises and examples will be oriented around developing basic analytical dynamic modelling skills as well as intuition about the kinds of results that emerge from dynamic analysis.
