Workshop on Theoretical and Practical Issues in Bio-Economic Modeling

30 September - 2 October 2002 in Roskilde, Denmark - FAME (the workshops website).

Guest Lecturers:
Professor Peter Bogetoft, The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University
Professor Ola Flåten, University of Tromsø
Professor Jim Kirkley, College of William and Mary
Senior Researcher Per Sparre, Danish Institute of Fisheries Research

Background:
Modeling of exploitation of natural resources involves a number of methodological issues. During the past years the development has provided tools of analysis which are more adaptable to different situations and a potentially more realistic portrayal of natural resources policy.

However, models have to be based not only on the dynamics of natural resources, the relevant economics and an understanding of the issue to be addressed, but also on a sound techniques of building and applying models. The aim of the workshop is to focus on this gab. What are the guidelines for practitioners regarding the process of building and implementing the models? The workshop will among other things address issues such as:

  • How to include regulation into the models, the institutional framework?
  • Aggregation: Transition from firm-level to sector-level analysis
  • Inclusion of productivity analysis, conversion of inputs to output
  • Capital adjustments
  • Different experiences of bio-economic modeling

Participation:
The workshop is free of charge for anyone wishing to participate. Participation, travel and accommodation expenses are covered for a limited number of participants from the Nordic and Baltic countries by a grant from NorFa. Please notify us when you enrol.

Presentation of paper and models is possible, please notify . It is the intention to encourage modeling work, therefore participants are encouraged to bring their own models.

Deadline for enrolment: 10th September 2002
