Functional Proteomics in fish cell lines: Effect of ischemia

Ph.D. project by Søren Wilhjelm (DIFRES)

Supervisors: Else K. Hoffmann (AKI) og Flemming Jessen (DIFRES)

Ischemia is a stressful situation for the cell, ultimately leading to apoptosis. From the onset of ischemia to the apoptotic point of no return and further on to the death of the cell, the cell undergoes major changes in metabolism, DNA transcription, protein composition, phosphorylation state of individual proteins, osmolyte transport etc.

The objective of this Ph.D. study is to investigate ischemia-induced proteome changes in 3 fish cell lines: fibroblasts already isolated by Ph.D. student Carlo Ossum at AKI and myocytes and adipocytes in the process of being isolated. This will be done using 2D-SDS-PAGE followed by identification of selected proteins using MALDI mass spectrometry.
