The talk is an overview lecture of the history of Australian fisheries with a look to the social investments, who built the fishing industry and how did they do it, to the economic gains and to the ecological costs. In addition the talk touches on the Australian experience of modern ITQ management. In the past the typical Australian fishery consisted of two groups - fishers and buyer/processors. Now we have a third group - the owners, many were ex fishers, some are processors and some are pure investors.
